2024 Global Top 150 Futures Contracts

The top 150 Futures contracts delivered a notable 16.7% uplift in traded notional value (USD equivalent) for 2024.

Precious metals and foreign exchange emerged as the standout performers, recording an impressive 26.5% year-over-year growth. Rates and Equity Indices followed suit with gains of 20.7% and 17.4%, respectively. In contrast, energy and commodity futures faced a 7.1% decline, highlighting shifting market dynamics.

In a landmark moment, crypto futures officially entered the elite league. CME's Bitcoin Futures made their debut in the top 150 just seven years after their launch, signalling their growing influence in global futures markets.

An intriguing subplot unfolded in Euro ESTR futures trading, where ICE Financials Europe, Eurex and CME Group saw directly competing contracts break into the top 150 simultaneously. The stage is now set for an intense battle in 2025 and beyond as these exchanges vie for dominance in this critical market.

Amidst the competition, CME Group's Three-Month SOFR Futures once again claimed the #1 position as the world's largest contract by traded notional value. CME also repeated its remarkable 2023 achievement, securing seven contracts in the Top 10.
